The ‘Fix It’ workshop is a new initiative at Orchard Place. In conjunction with the woodshop, ‘Fix It’ will enable clients the chance to gain various skills in property maintenance. It also aims to improve social inclusion by joining our team, offering general handyman services to the general public.
Types of skills covered:
• Planning and procurement
• Fixing of skirting boards, architraves and dado/picture rails
• Door Hanging and fitting the correct lock
• Garden landscaping
• Introduction to wallpapering, paint and varnish finishes
• Choosing and laying wooden/laminate flooring
• Choosing the correct wall fixings
• Introduction to tiling & basic plumbing
• Flat pack assembly
Each area of skill would be taught within our own training area at set times during the year. Service users may join the short course for their personal development, or as a vocational pathway, joining our team and putting these skills into practise. Initially this will be under full supervision and support from a Technical Instructor, but as the clients’ find more confidence in their skills and decision making, the supervision may be minimised.
